Viral about world oldest college graduate – Shigemi Hirata have been become hot topic in internet world. He is 96 years old by this year and earned degree in ceramic arts.
Shigemi Hirata who born in Hiroshima at 1919, received his Guinness World Records certificate on Friday, July 4 after earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from Kyoto University of Art and Design earlier this year.
Hirata, who took 11 years to complete his ceramic arts course after taking up pottery as a pensioner, insisted he was not done setting records as he said, “My goal is to live until I’m 100, If I’m fit enough it might be rather fun to go to graduate school.”
Hirata, who served in the navy during World War II and has 4 great-grandchildren, added: “I’m so happy. At my age it’s fun to be able to learn new things.”
There are also other world oldest college master graduate, Nola Ochs (Kansas, received degree at 88 years old and master degree of liberal studies at her 98 years old) and Phyllis Mary Turner (received her master degree of anthropology at her 94 years old).
Nola Ochs became Guinness World Record holder as the world’s oldest college graduate in 2007.
