A bible page from the Gospel of Matthew, as called as The Ground Zero Bible, was found by an unidentified firefighter fused to a steel in the World Trade Center after the 9/11 terrorist attack.
The fragment of ground zero bible page found on March 2002 under The Tully Road, a temporary truck route that covered the last remnants of the south tower. He called out to the photographer named Joel Meyerowitz, who happened to be nearby.
Meyerowitz had appeared in the History Channel filming about 9/11 attacks. His work as a photographer was linked to recovery efforts at Ground Zero long before Remembering 9/11 aired more than a decade later.
“This shredded, burned and rubble-covered Bible came to me from the loving hands of a fireman who knew that I was the record keeper of ground zero. My astonishment at seeing the page that the Bible was open to made me realize that the Bible’s message survives throughout time and in every era we interpret its teachings freshly, as the occasion demands.” – Joel Meyerowitz
Analyzing Biblical texts involved, the scripture in the middle from ground zero bible is from Matthew 5, 32-42. At the bottom of page, the scripture is from Matthew 7, 27.
Matthew 5, 32-42 – A Message of Forgiveness
38 ‘You have heard that it was said, “An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.” 39 But I say to you, Do not resist an evildoer. But if anyone strikes you on the right cheek, turn the other also;40 and if anyone wants to sue you and take your coat, give your cloak as well; 41 and if anyone forces you to go one mile, go also the second mile. 42 Give to everyone who begs from you, and do not refuse anyone who wants to borrow from you.
Matthew 7, 27 – The Collapse of the Building
27 The rain fell, the torrents raged, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell — and great was its collapse!” 28 When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at His teaching,29 because He taught as one who had authority, and not as their scribes.…
“The last words of the Sermon, the last to appear in red on the fused page, describe a great fall, the collapse of a building. The building falls as the result of a storm. It cannot withstand the forces that come against it because it’s not grounded on the rock. The rock represents the Word of God.” – Jonathan Cahn, author of “The Harbinger”.
Now, ground zero bible fragment is kept in National September 11 Memorial Museum.
